Collagen Induction, Done Properly
Better Plastic Surgery now offers SkinPen® Elite — the first FDA-cleared microneedling device — in Morristown as the newest step in our medical skin program. Microneedling, formally collagen induction therapy, uses a sterile single-use cartridge to create millions of controlled microchannels in the skin. Your skin responds by rebuilding itself: new collagen and elastin that smooth texture, soften acne scars and fine lines, and refine pore appearance — progressively, naturally, on every skin type.
“The best skin care builds from the foundation up: a daily regimen that keeps skin healthy, and treatments that ask the skin to repair itself. Microneedling is exactly that — honest, progressive, and powered by your own biology.”
— The Better Plastic Surgery Philosophy
What Microneedling Treats
Rough, uneven texture and enlarged-looking pores smooth as fresh collagen replaces disorganized surface structure.
The indication SkinPen earned its FDA clearance for — rolling and shallow boxcar scarring softens over a dedicated series.
Early lines, dullness, and crepey texture on the face and neck respond to progressive collagen remodeling.
Because the mechanism is your own healing response rather than heat or chemistry, SkinPen is appropriate for all skin types year-round, including deeper skin tones where many energy devices carry pigment risk. It is worth naming what we deliberately did not choose: RF (radiofrequency) microneedling. The FDA has warned about burns, scarring, and facial fat loss with some RF microneedling treatments. Mechanical collagen induction with an FDA-cleared device is the conservative choice — and conservative, done well, is how this practice has operated for forty years.
The Exosome & Serum Pairing
Microneedling's microchannels stay open briefly after treatment — a window in which topicals penetrate far more effectively than on intact skin. That is the basis for the two pairings we offer. First, medical-grade serums: treatment glides on a hyaluronic-acid gel, and post-care includes a biocellulose recovery mask and calming complex from the SkinPen clinical line. Second, optional topical exosomes — concentrated cell-signaling vesicles applied immediately after needling to support the remodeling response, an approach we introduced on our facial rejuvenation page. Our honest framing does not change here: topical exosome products are not FDA-approved drugs, the science is promising but still maturing, and we will present them as an optional enhancement — never a requirement, never a promise.
Built on Your Skin Care Foundation
Microneedling slots into the skin-health ladder we have been building deliberately: a daily ZO Skin Health regimen as the foundation (Dr. Obagi's “Getting Skin Ready” conditioning makes treated skin respond better and heal faster), SkinPen collagen induction as the recurring in-office stimulus, and — as demand develops — the Sciton laser platform above it for pigment, vessels, and deeper resurfacing. Injectables layer alongside rather than compete: BOTOX® and Dysport for expression lines, fillers and biostimulators for volume and structure. One plan, tiered honestly by what each tool actually does.
What a Treatment Looks Like
A visit takes about an hour: 30–45 minutes of topical numbing, then roughly 30 minutes of treatment as the SkinPen is glided across the face (and neck or décolleté where planned) at depths tuned to each zone. Expect redness like a moderate sunburn for 24–72 hours; most patients are back to normal activities the same day and wearing makeup within a day or two. Results build as a series of 3–4 treatments about a month apart — an early glow within days of each session, with the real textural change developing over the following weeks as new collagen matures. Maintenance once or twice a year preserves it. Every cartridge is sterile and single-use; every treatment follows the clinical protocol we certify in with Revance, SkinPen's maker.
