The Next Step in Skin Health
For four decades, Better Plastic Surgery has built results from the foundation up: healthy skin first, through a physician-directed ZO Skin Health regimen, then targeted treatment where topicals reach their limit. We are now preparing to take that philosophy a step further — bringing the Sciton laser platform to Morristown, with three of the most respected treatments in energy-based aesthetics: BBL® broadband light, the Moxi™ fractionated laser, and erbium laser resurfacing. This page explains what each does and who it helps — and if you'd like these treatments here, we want to hear from you: patient interest is directly shaping what we bring in.
“Great skin isn't an accident and it isn't a single treatment. It's a foundation you build daily — and then, when you're ready, the right technology takes it further than any cream can.”
— The Better Plastic Surgery Philosophy
Step One: The Skin Care Foundation
Every laser plan at our practice will begin where every good skin plan begins — with the daily regimen. Dr. Zein Obagi's Getting Skin Ready (GSR) philosophy, the backbone of our ZO Skin Health program, builds strong, resilient skin that responds better to treatment and heals more predictably afterward:
Daily cleansing, exfoliation, and oil control restore the skin barrier and prepare it to respond — the GSR groundwork every ZO protocol starts with.
Medical-grade retinol, antioxidants, and growth factors reach the dermis — where collagen is actually made — to drive cellular renewal from within.
Daily broad-spectrum sun protection guards the result — up to 90% of visible aging is sun-driven — while in-office chemical peels correct at the surface.
A committed regimen accomplishes a great deal. But some changes live deeper than any topical can reach: pigment scattered through the dermis, broken capillaries and persistent redness, etched-in lines, and scars. That is where light and laser energy take over — each tool matched to a specific problem at a specific depth.
The Sciton Platform: Three Tools, One System
Sciton has built medical lasers in Palo Alto, California for more than 25 years, and its platforms are the ones many dermatologists and plastic surgeons choose for their own practices. The three treatments below span the full range — from no-downtime light therapy to true surgical-grade resurfacing.

BBL® HERO™ — BroadBand Light Phototherapy
BBL is Sciton's photorejuvenation treatment — a far more powerful and precise evolution of IPL. Pulses of broadband light are absorbed by pigment and blood vessels in the skin, clearing the accumulated “color” of sun damage and age while stimulating overall skin quality. The HERO (High Energy Rapid Output) generation makes treatment fast enough to do the face in minutes — and areas like the neck, chest, and hands practical in the same visit.
What BBL treats: sun spots and age spots, freckles, redness and rosacea, small broken vessels and cherry angiomas, dull or uneven complexion, active acne, and the appearance of early skin laxity. Downtime: minimal to none — most patients return to normal activities immediately, with treated pigment darkening briefly before flaking away. Visible results are typical in 1–2 treatments, where traditional IPL often takes five or six.
Moxi™ — Gentle Fractionated “Prejuvenation”
Moxi is a non-ablative fractionated laser — it creates microscopic zones of treated tissue beneath an intact surface, which the body replaces with fresh, healthy skin. It was designed for prejuvenation: correcting the first signs of sun damage and aging, and maintaining great skin before deeper correction is ever needed. A facial treatment takes about 8–10 minutes, is comfortable with topical numbing, and can be performed year-round on all skin types, including darker skin tones that many lasers cannot safely treat.
What Moxi treats: early pigment and sun damage, uneven tone, rough texture, fine lines, and overall radiance. Downtime: about a day socially — makeup can be worn 24 hours after treatment; tiny treated micro-dots (MENDs) darken and flake between days 3–5, revealing renewed skin. Most patients do a series of 3–4 treatments spaced about a month apart, then maintain. Moxi pairs beautifully with BBL in a single visit.
Erbium Laser Resurfacing — The Deep Correction
Sciton's erbium (Er:YAG 2940 nm) family — NanoLaserPeel™, MicroLaserPeel®, and the fractionated ProFractional™ — is true laser resurfacing: precisely removing or treating damaged skin at a chosen depth so it heals as new. Because erbium energy is absorbed so efficiently by water in the skin, it ablates with remarkable precision and less heat injury than traditional CO2 — meaning depth can be tuned from a light “weekend peel” to deep correction, generally with faster, more predictable healing.
What erbium resurfacing treats: the hard-to-treat lines around the lips and eyes, deeper wrinkles, acne scars and surgical scars, pigmented lesions and sun-damaged texture, enlarged pores, and dull, aged skin — on all skin types. Downtime: depends entirely on depth — from a few hours of redness after the lightest peel, to a week for fractionated deep work, to 10+ days for full-field deep resurfacing. It is the tool we reach for when creams, light, and gentle lasers are no longer enough — and a natural complement to facelift surgery, which repositions tissue but does not change skin surface quality.
Which Laser Does What?
Browns and reds: sun spots, freckles, redness, vessels, dullness. No real downtime. Results in 1–2 sessions.
Early sun damage, uneven tone, fine texture. All skin types, year-round. About a day of downtime; series of 3–4.
Etched lines, deep wrinkles, acne and surgical scars, aged texture. Tunable depth; hours to 10+ days of downtime.
In practice the three work as a ladder — and often together. BBL clears color while Moxi refines texture in the same visit; erbium handles what they cannot. Every plan will be built in consultation, on the foundation of your skin care regimen, with the honest guidance this practice is known for: the right treatment, at the right depth, and nothing you don't need.
