Shaping of the lower trunk and buttocks with lipo-sculpting and fat grafting.

2017-01-22T19:44:24+00:00September 27th, 2011|Categories: Body, News|

Shaping of the lower trunk and buttocks with lipo-sculpting and fat grafting. I wrote about the buttocks to breast relationship or buttocks to breast ratio on 9/16/11. I would like to concentrate today on the aesthetics of the buttocks and the lower trunk. Liposuction is one of our greatest tools in plastic surgery. When artistic principles are used to create the proper proportion between the waist, hips and buttocks you can expect true beautification of the female body.   The buttocks go through the same process of aging as the face. The skin looses elasticity and there is relative [...]

Transversus Abdominis Plane Block Anesthesia to help with the post operative day pain after abdominoplasty ( tummy tuck ).

2017-01-22T19:44:25+00:00September 20th, 2011|Categories: Body, News|

Pain after abdominoplasty is a problem immediately after the surgery and will subside in a few days. During this time the patients require pain medicine to make them more comfortable. It is also important that the patients get out of bed and move around to reduce the likelihood of clothing in the leg veins. What ever can be done to reduce the pain after the surgery will improve the patient’s recovery and comfort. Many methodes are used to reduce the pain including pain pump catheters insertion. I usually infiltrate the fascia on each side of the muscle repair as [...]

ART AND PLASTIC SURGERY. SHOULD A PLASTIC SURGEON BE AN ARTIST?

2011-09-18T00:55:16+00:00September 18th, 2011|Categories: Dr Rafizadeh' s Art, News|

How my artistic background has helped me in my carieer in plastic surgery?  Even as a child I was interested in drawing and painting.  I started painting with oil at the age of ten. In high school, I took it more seriously and was considering a career in the arts.  My father was very much against that idea and encouraged me to become a plastic surgeon.  He used to say artists can’t make a living and most of them starve to death.  He said, “There is only one Picasso and what are the chances that you will be like [...]

Buttocks and breast ratio? Is there an ideal buttocks to breast relationship or proportion?

2017-01-22T19:44:25+00:00September 17th, 2011|Categories: Body, News|

Buttocks New Jersey. Is there a golden proportion between buttocks waist and breasts? I have written previously about the notion of beauty in the human face and body. This is a subject that interests me greatly, both in an artistic sense and as a plastic surgeon. The aesthetics of the buttocks has a huge influence on the female attractiveness. This is the most important factor in some cultures and with the growing latino influence on the American culture, the buttocks is becoming as important as the breast in this country. I would like to write about this subject and bring [...]

What is the best age for plastic surgery?

2017-01-22T19:44:25+00:00September 7th, 2011|Categories: Facial rejuvenation., General, News|

9/7/11 What is an appropriate age for plastic surgery? I was asked by a 19 year old, if she was a candidate for a tummy tuck. After one child her abdomen became loose, with excess skin and fat. Her situation could be acceptable for a 40 year old lady who is married and has few children, but not for a young lady who is just starting her adult life. I thought she was definitely a candidate for the procedure. Age by itself, should not be a criteria. For any given age a certain look is expected. This becomes an [...]

Efficiency in Face lifting ( rhytidectomy )

2017-01-22T19:44:25+00:00September 4th, 2011|Categories: Facial rejuvenation., News|

You see and hear promises for fast recovery in face lifting, but these faster recoveries are often obtained because less is done and the results are poor or not long lasting. How to get maximum efficiency in face lifting? Efficiency means less bruising, swelling and faster recovery in exchange for a better result. To do this, one has to limit the dissection to what is absolutely necessary. The examination on how the skin attaches to the deeper structures is critical. In some people the skin is very mobile in others there are strong ligaments holding the skin attached to the [...]

Exercise has a lot of positive effects on health, your sense of well-being and your appearance.  It helps your cardiovascular system by allowing your muscles to extract more oxygen from the blood that circulates through them, therefore reducing the work of your heart.  That’s why athletes have a lower heart rate.  It raises the HDL (good cholesterol) levels.  HDL keeps your arteries clean of cholesterol deposits.  Exercise increases your lean body mass.  Your appearance improves by being more fit.  When you exercise, you have more energy.  It also helps your brain and memory.  Every one has a different way of [...]

Is MRI necessary after silicone breast implantation?

2011-07-20T02:09:24+00:00July 20th, 2011|Categories: Breast, News|

The FDA has required an MRI three years after a silicone breast implants and every subsequent two years. Many patients find this difficult to do and the insurance companies do not always cover the cost of the MRI that ranges between $500 to $2000. It is recommended to remove and exchange the implants, if there is evidence of rupture. I am not sure how important this kind of routine surveillance is for the overall health of my patients, but I have recommended that the patients follow the FDA guidelines and the manufacturer's requirements. I found this announcement by Dr Andrew [...]
