Otoplasty NJ Ear Surgery
Otoplasty or ear surgery is a general term that can include and ear lobe repair or ear pinning or even a complicated reconstruction of a congenital ear deformity.
Earlobe Repair
Ear lobes can tear completely due to an accidental pull on the earing. In this case it should be immediately repaired. Sometime the tear happens as a result of repeated accidents or by wearing a heavy earring for a long time. The tear could be complete or in some cases, partial causing a long or wide hole that is unsightly and can not hold an ear stud. This condition can be repaired by first excising a wedge of tissue and repairing it in layers using fine sutures. This is normally done in our office under local anesthesia. The procedure only takes 20 minutes and is scheduled at the end of the office hours. The sutures are removed in five days and special tapes are applied.
