Wide nose and nostril flare
Flaring nostrils and a wide nose can be the result of reducing the nasal tip projection in a rhinoplasty or be present before often in ethnic groups, especially in African Americans. This can be corrected by an alar base resection or Weir excision. The excision could involve the base of the ala or the nostril sill depending on the desired shape and results. This procedure is often a part of rhinoplasty or it could be done as an independent procedure. I often pay attention to the width of the nostrils and when I do a lip lift, I can adjust this width at the same time.
