Single stage breast reconstruction refers to an immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy where instead of using an expander an implant is used so that there is no need for expansion and eventually the exchange of the expander to implant. This operation is not possible on every patient and it requires certain conditions to be met and a very accurate patient selection and perfect coordination with the oncologic surgeon. The quality of mastectomy is critical to get a successful result. In prophylactic mastectomy cases Dr. Rafizadeh could perform the mastectomy and the reconstruction at the same time and make sure that the quality of skin flaps are adequate for the direct to implant reconstruction.
