Giving yourself a smooth neck can make you look years younger. Neck bands and wrinkles are an unfortunate part of aging, but they don’t have to stay with you forever. In order to fight these using Botox and other methods, you’ll first need to learn more about them.
The vertical bands of muscle that form on the neck are called neck bands or platysmal bands. As we age, our platysma muscles – large muscles that go from the jaw area down to the top of the chest – loosen and separate. With repeated use, they become permanently tensed, forming corded neck bands. Botox can relax the platysma muscles, making your neck bands disappear.
The horizontal lines that form on the neck with age are called neck lines or necklace lines. A neck lift is usually a better procedure for correcting necklace lines. However, Botox sometimes does make a difference. When necklace lines are being treated with Botox, the substance is injected into the muscles below the lines (still part of the platysma muscles), easing the wrinkles.
